UAE National Day Ideas 2026: Office Dress Code, Tees and Timeline
Planning Eid Al Etihad 55 at the office? Celebration ideas built on the 'family of families' theme, a dress code that includes everyone, and when to order branded tees.
The best UAE National Day office celebrations in 2026 are simple to plan: a flag-colour dress code, one matching branded item for every employee (usually a printed T-shirt, cap or scarf), and an activity that fits this year's family theme. Eid Al Etihad falls on Wednesday 2 December 2026, so most offices will hold their celebration on Tuesday 1 December. That leaves about four and a half weeks from the end of October, and custom apparel needs to be ordered by around mid-November.
Below: ideas that work in a UAE workplace, an inclusive dress code, what to order, and a week-by-week timeline for HR and procurement.
Key dates for Eid Al Etihad 2026
| Date | Day | What it means for your office |
|---|---|---|
| 3 November | Tuesday | Flag Day: a flag-raising ceremony at the office, using your existing flag and staff |
| Mid-November | — | Realistic last week to confirm custom branded apparel |
| 30 November | Monday | Commemoration Day (Martyrs' Day): a solemn occasion, not a party day |
| 1 December | Tuesday | Most likely date for the office celebration |
| 2–3 December | Wed–Thu | Eid Al Etihad public holiday (expected) |
Eid Al Etihad is usually a two-day holiday on 2 and 3 December. In 2026 that is a Wednesday and Thursday, and it is the last public holiday of the year. At the end of October the official holiday announcement had not yet been made, so check it before you confirm leave plans. Many employees will add Friday 4 December as annual leave to get a five-day break, so your celebration needs to happen before the holiday, not after it.
On Flag Day, 3 November, people across the country hold flag-raising ceremonies. You do not need to order anything for it, and it is a useful way to start the countdown. Commemoration Day on 30 November honours Emirati martyrs, so keep that Monday respectful. Hold your celebration on Tuesday 1 December.
The 2026 theme: "a family of families"
The 55th Eid Al Etihad takes place during the UAE's Year of Family. Its visual identity shows the country as "a family of families": people from many backgrounds connected by shared values and a sense of belonging. The design takes inspiration from traditional Emirati homes, architecture, landscapes and the idea of a family photo album that combines archive photographs with modern ones.
This theme suits a workplace well because most UAE offices have staff from many nationalities. It gives you a reason to involve employees' families and to celebrate the people who built their lives here, not only to put up decorations.
UAE National Day office celebration ideas that work
- A family morning or afternoon. Invite employees' spouses and children for a short gathering with Emirati breakfast, a children's drawing corner and a group photo. It fits the theme and works in any office with a meeting room or lobby.
- A "UAE family album" wall. Ask staff to share a photo from their first year in the UAE, or a photo of family here, and print them for a wall display.
- A heritage corner. Serve Arabic coffee (gahwa) and dates, play traditional music, and invite an Emirati colleague or a cultural guide to talk about the Union. If you bring in a professional, a calligraphy or henna artist is usually popular.
- Team photo in matching tees. This is the photo that gets shared on LinkedIn and the company intranet. Matching apparel makes it work, which is why the shirts are the item to order first.
- A volunteering or community activity. A beach clean-up, a food drive or care packages for labourers. If it is outdoors, caps and breathable tees are needed, not just nice to have.
- A team outdoor event. A desert evening or park picnic in the weekend before the holiday. Early December evenings in the desert can feel cool, so a light hoodie or long-sleeve layer helps.
Pick two or three, not all six. One shared moment (the photo), one activity and one item for every employee to keep is enough.
Setting a National Day dress code
People in the UAE usually wear the national flag colours for National Day, so a flag-colour dress code feels familiar to everyone. You can run it in three ways.
Option A: "Wear the colours" (no ordering needed)
Ask staff to wear red, green, white or black. It costs nothing and needs no lead time, but the group photo looks mixed.
Option B: Company-issued National Day item
Every employee gets the same tee, polo, cap or scarf, worn on the celebration day and often for the whole week before. This gives you a consistent photo and a keepsake people use again. It needs a budget and about two to three weeks of lead time.
Option C: National dress welcome, never required
Emirati colleagues will often wear kandura or abaya on the day. Some offices invite other staff to wear traditional dress from their own countries, which fits the "family of families" idea. Make this optional, and keep the tone respectful rather than treating it as fancy dress.
Most offices combine B and C: a company item for everyone, with national dress welcome.
If customer-facing staff will wear a branded polo for the whole week, use our UAE flag polo shirt guide for staff.
What to order: apparel options compared
| Item | Best for | Fabric / spec to ask for | Branding method | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton T-shirt | Whole-office celebration, team photo | 100% cotton, roughly 160–180 GSM; heavier 200+ GSM feels more premium | Screen printing for one or two colours at volume; DTF for full-colour or small runs | Ask for the exact shade, because flag green and red differ between suppliers' stock |
| Performance (dri-fit) tee | Outdoor activities, clean-ups, sports | Polyester or poly blend, moisture-wicking | DTF, sublimation (white or light polyester) or heat transfer | Polyester needs a lower-temperature transfer, so confirm the method with the printer |
| Polo shirt | Front-line staff for the whole week | Pique cotton or dri-fit pique | Embroidery on the chest | Takes longer than tees and needs more sizing care |
| Cap | Outdoor events, prizes, one-size giveaways | Cotton twill or mesh trucker, adjustable strap | Embroidery or a patch | One size fits most, which makes it the fastest item to plan |
| Flag-colour scarf or shawl | Quick add-on, guests, families | Printed polyester or knitted | Usually ready-made, with an optional printed or woven label | Ready-made designs are quick; fully custom ones are not |
| Hoodie | Desert evenings, December outdoor events | Fleece or French terry, around 280–330 GSM | Embroidery or print | Too warm for indoor office use in the UAE |
A practical approach for most offices is one custom T-shirt for everyone, plus caps or scarves for outdoor activities and guests.
Colour and design tips
- Base colour: White and black blanks are the easiest to get in every size at short notice. A white tee with a flag-colour print photographs well and suits the theme.
- Keep the flag accurate. If you use the flag, show it correctly: a vertical red band at the hoist side, then green, white and black horizontal bands from top to bottom. Never put your logo over the flag, and do not place it where it would be sat on or stepped on.
- Logo placement: Use a small company logo on the sleeve or back neck, with the National Day message as the main design. Staff are more likely to wear the shirt again if it does not look like a uniform.
- The official 55th identity: The Eid Al Etihad visual identity is official government branding. Unless you have confirmed the usage terms, design your own "55" or "Eid Al Etihad" artwork instead of copying the official logo.
- Arabic text: Have a native Arabic reader proofread any Arabic wording before you approve the artwork. Mirrored or disconnected Arabic letters are a common and embarrassing printing mistake.

How many to order and how to collect sizes
- Headcount plus 5–10%. Add a buffer for new joiners, size swaps and anyone you forgot, such as drivers, cleaners, security and on-site contractors.
- Collect sizes with a form, not by guessing. Give a size chart in cm (chest width and length) so people measure a shirt they already own.
- Unisex or fitted: Unisex tees are simpler to order. If a large share of your team prefers a fitted cut, order two cuts and ask about this in the size form.
- Families: If you invite children, order a few kids' sizes or give caps and scarves, which fit almost everyone.
- Pack by department. Ask for each department's order to be bagged separately, labelled by size or by name, so it can be handed out in minutes.
Week-by-week ordering timeline for 2026
This timeline works backwards from a celebration on Tuesday 1 December. Branding stock garments in the UAE can be done in this time. Custom-cut garments, special-dyed colours or anything made overseas from scratch usually cannot, so plan around stock blanks.
- Week of 1 November: decide and collect. Agree the format, budget and items. Send the size form and set a deadline. Brief your designer or ask your supplier for mock-ups. Hold the Flag Day ceremony on Tuesday 3 November.
- Week of 8 November: quote and approve. Get written quotations that state the garment, GSM, colour, branding method, print size and delivery date. Approve digital mock-ups. For embroidery, allow time for the logo to be digitised and a stitch sample to be made. Close the size form.
- By about 15 November: confirm the order. Sign off final quantities by size and pay any deposit. After this point, options become limited: popular sizes in flag colours sell out, and printers' schedules fill up with other National Day orders.
- Weeks of 15 and 22 November: production. Printing or embroidery, quality checks and packing. Ask for a photo of the first finished piece before the full run is completed.
- By 26 November: delivery and checks. Count the pieces against the size breakdown, check print placement and colours, and keep a few spares. Hand items out by Thursday 26 November so staff can wear them on 1 December, or earlier if you want them worn all week.
- Week of 29 November: celebration. Keep Monday 30 November respectful for Commemoration Day, celebrate on Tuesday 1 December, and take the team photo early in the day, before people start leaving for the long weekend.
Missed mid-November? Go simpler: one-colour print or DTF on white tees, embroidered or patch caps, or ready-made flag scarves. Or use Option A, "wear the colours", and spend the budget on food and the family event.
