Leavers Hoodies in the UAE: Class of 2027 Design, Names and Timeline
A planning guide for UAE schools and parent committees: Class of 2027 leavers hoodie designs, how many names fit on the back, sizing and a dated ordering timeline.
A leavers hoodie for a UAE school is usually a mid-weight cotton-poly hoodie in school colours, with the crest embroidered on the chest, "Class of 2027" or "Leavers 27" on the front or sleeve, and every student's name printed on the back. For the Class of 2027, a committee that starts now can lock names and sizes before the winter break, approve a proof in January and have hoodies delivered while the weather is still cool. Leave it until after the break and you are usually planning an end-of-year keepsake, not something students wear for months.
Search results for leavers hoodies in the UAE are mostly shop pages built for one school, plus overseas templates. This guide covers what they leave out: how many names fit on a back print, how to collect sizes and a timeline built around the 2026–27 school calendar.
Who orders leavers hoodies in the UAE, and when they are worn
UAE schools order leavers wear for three year groups:
- Year 6 / Grade 5 leavers moving from primary to secondary. These are youth sizes, and parents often pay for them.
- Year 11 / Grade 10 at the end of GCSE/IGCSE or the equivalent. UAE suppliers' listings include Year 11 hoodies and sweatshirts for several Dubai schools.
- Year 13 / Grade 12 graduates, usually the biggest and most design-led order.
The order is usually run by a student council, parent committee or head of year. Get the school's written approval for its crest and name before you brief a supplier.
Climate matters more here than in the UK. A hoodie gets real outdoor use roughly from December to February, plus air-conditioned classrooms, buses and malls all year round. Your choice of fabric weight and delivery date should follow from that.
Fabric and weight: what works in UAE schools
| Option | Typical weight | Feel | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton-poly brushed fleece (e.g. 80/20 or 60/40) | 280–330 GSM | Soft inside, warm, holds shape | Most leavers orders | Warmer than students expect outdoors from March onwards |
| French terry (loop-back) | 240–300 GSM | Lighter, breathes better | Schools that want year-round indoor wear | Less of a "cosy" feel than fleece |
| Heavyweight 100% cotton | 350–400 GSM | Premium, structured, boxy | Year 13 keepsake, oversized fits | Hot, heavier to post, costs more, can shrink if washed hot |
| Zip hoodie (any of the above) | As above | Easy on and off over uniform | Schools where pullovers aren't allowed over uniform | The zip splits the front design |
For most UAE year groups, a 280–320 GSM cotton-poly fleece is the safe middle ground. The polyester in the blend helps the hoodie keep its shape and colour after a year of washing, and it takes screen print and DTF well. Our hoodies range covers pullover and zip styles in fleece and French terry if you want to compare options.
Colour: dark school colours (navy, bottle green, black, maroon) hide marks and suit white or metallic names on the back. White and pastel hoodies look great in photos but show wear quickly. If the year group wants a "fashion" colour, check the school is happy for it to be worn over uniform.
Design ideas for Class of 2027
Keep the design to one front, one back and at most one extra position. More positions mean more set-up and more chances for errors.
Front / chest
- School crest embroidered on the left chest, with initials or a nickname on the right chest. This is a common layout on UAE school listings.
- A large "LEAVERS 27" or "CLASS OF 2027" across the chest in a collegiate or varsity font.
Back
- Names arranged inside the numbers "27" or the school crest outline.
- A straight column list under a heading such as "THE CLASS OF 2027".
- The school name in an arc, with names underneath in a block.
Sleeves, hood and neck
- "27" or the school founding year on one sleeve.
- The student's own first name or nickname at the back of the neck or down a sleeve. This means individual personalisation (see below).
Finishes that photograph well: puff print for the year number or metallic ink for the names. Use one special finish, not three.
Language and content: if you include names in Arabic script alongside English, ask the supplier to confirm their artwork font fully supports Arabic, and proof it with a native reader. Keep slogans school-appropriate, because leadership will see them before printing.
Names-on-back: layout and how many names fit
Names-on-back is the feature students care about most, and the one most likely to go wrong. The design is identical on every hoodie, so screen printing is usually the most cost-effective method once you have a few dozen pieces. DTF also works well for smaller groups or very detailed colour artwork; see our custom printing page for how the methods compare.
Print area and text size
The usable back print area on an adult hoodie is typically around 28–30 cm wide by 35–40 cm tall (less on youth sizes). Many suppliers print one artwork size across all sizes, so the design has to fit the smallest size ordered. The rough capacities below assume names set in columns within a 28 × 35 cm area:
| Year group size | Layout that works | Approx. text height per name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 60 | 2–3 columns or a shape | 9–12 mm | Room for a big heading and school name |
| 60–120 | 3–4 columns or "27" shape | 7–9 mm | Still easy to read at a glance |
| 120–200 | 4–6 columns | 5–7 mm | Use first name plus surname initial, or first names only |
| 200+ | 6+ columns or two blocks | Under 5 mm | Consider first names only, or splitting by house or form |
As a rule of thumb, keep every name at least about 5 mm tall and avoid very thin or script fonts at that size. Fine strokes can fill in or break up in print, especially on fleece. A clean, condensed sans-serif in capitals is the most legible choice.
Getting the names list right
- Use one master spreadsheet: first name, surname, form and size in one place, owned by one person.
- Have each student confirm their own spelling. This matters in UAE schools, where names are often transliterated from Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog and other languages, and the same name may be spelt several ways.
- Decide the format once: full name, first name only, or first name plus initial. Apply it to everyone.
- Set a cut-off date and a policy for late changes. International schools in the UAE have students joining and leaving mid-year. Agree up front whether late joiners are added (and whether that means a re-proof) and what happens if someone leaves after the list is locked.
- Sort the names consistently: alphabetical by first name is easiest to check on the proof.
Personalisation: shared names vs individual names
There are two kinds of personalisation, and they cost and schedule very differently.
- Shared names-on-back: one artwork for everyone. This is efficient and usually screen printed.
- Individual names (a student's own name on the sleeve, chest or neck): every hoodie is different. This is done with embroidery or DTF, one piece at a time, then sorted and labelled per student. It adds handling time and a per-piece cost, and the supplier needs a list matching each name to a size.
If budget or time is tight, drop individual names first. Embroidered initials on the chest are a neat middle ground: small, quick to stitch and durable.
Sizing: collecting sizes without returns
Returns on personalised leavers hoodies are rarely possible, so sizing has to be right first time.
- Share a size chart in centimetres (chest width and body length, measured flat), not just S/M/L. Brands vary widely. Our hoodie size guide explains how to measure.
- Ask for a size set (one of each size) to be sent to school, so students can try them on at lunchtime before submitting their size. This prevents more mistakes than any chart.
- Year 6 orders: use youth sizes by age range, and remind parents that children grow. Many go one size up.
- Year 11 and Year 13: unisex adult sizing usually works. Students who want an oversized look should pick one size up, not ask for a different cut.
- Order a few spares in the most common sizes to cover a late joiner, a teacher or a sizing mistake.
Ordering timeline for Class of 2027
This timeline works back from two possible delivery targets. KHDA's published 2026–27 calendars for Dubai private schools include the National Day holiday on 2–3 December 2026 and a winter break. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, and Eid Al Adha is expected around 16–17 May 2027. Check your own school's calendar, especially if it follows an April–March academic year.
| When | Track A: wear it this winter | Track B: end-of-year keepsake |
|---|---|---|
| Early–mid November 2026 | Form committee, get school approval, set budget, request quotes | Form committee, get school approval |
| Late November | Choose supplier and base hoodie; size set to school | Request quotes, agree design brief |
| Before winter break | Design final; names and sizes locked; payment collected | Design concepts circulated |
| Early January 2027 | Final proof signed off; production starts | Size set at school; names list opened |
| Late January – early February | Delivery and handover, ideally before Ramadan | Names and sizes locked |
| February–March | Hoodies worn through the cooler weeks | Proof signed off; production |
| April – early May | — | Delivery, ahead of exam season and the Eid Al Adha break |
Production time depends on quantity, branding method, the number of individual personalisations and whether the garments are made locally or sourced from overseas partners. Ask each supplier for a dated schedule from proof approval to delivery, and allow extra time around public holidays. Our guide to how long custom T-shirts take covers the same planning logic, including working around Ramadan.
Budget and payment
School-specific leavers hoodies on UAE retail sites are typically listed somewhere between about AED 135 and AED 170 per piece, depending on the school and style. If you order directly in bulk, your cost per piece will depend on:
- fabric weight and blend
- number of print and embroidery positions
- number of print colours or special finishes
- individual personalisation
- quantity, sizes and delivery deadline
Payment tips for committees: collect payment with the size form, not afterwards. Decide who the quotation and invoice are addressed to (the school, the PTA or a named committee), and keep a receipt trail for parents. Ask for written quotations that list garment, GSM, print positions, method and delivery date, so you compare like with like.
Pre-order checklist
- Written school approval for crest, name and design
- Hoodie style, fabric blend and GSM agreed
- Colour checked against uniform rules
- Size set tried on by students
- Names list verified by each student; cut-off date and late-joiner policy agreed
- Back layout checked: smallest name readable at the smallest size ordered
- Individual personalisation list matched to sizes (if used)
- Digital proof signed off by the committee and the school
- Payment collected; invoice addressee confirmed
- Delivery date, address and per-student packing or labelling agreed
Care instructions to share with students
Names-on-back prints last much longer if students wash the hoodie inside out at 30°C, avoid hot tumble drying and bleach, and never iron directly over the print. A care card in each bag saves complaints later.
