How to Choose Caps for Your Company: Styles, Fabrics and Logos
A UAE buyer's guide to custom company caps: which style suits which team, closures, heat-friendly fabrics, flat vs 3D puff embroidery and logo sizes in cm.
To choose caps for your company, start with who will wear them and where: outdoor and event teams in the UAE heat are usually best in a trucker or a lightweight performance cap, while front-of-house staff and corporate gifts suit a structured cotton baseball cap. Then pick the closure, the fabric and the profile. Pick the branding method last, because the logo has to fit the cap's front panel, not the other way round. Most poor cap orders come from choosing a style first and finding out later that the logo doesn't fit it.
Quick answer: which cap for which use
| Use | Recommended cap | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor field, delivery or site teams | Trucker (mesh back) or performance polyester cap | Ventilation and quick drying in heat |
| Event staff, activations, run clubs | Performance cap or trucker | Light, breathable, holds a bold logo |
| Retail, hospitality, front-of-house | Structured mid-profile baseball cap, cotton twill | Neat, consistent shape across the team |
| Corporate gifts and welcome kits | Structured or soft "dad" cap in brushed cotton | Feels premium, flattering on most heads |
| Streetwear or merch for your own brand | Flat-brim snapback or 5-panel | Logo-forward look, wide front panel |
Step 1: Choose the cap style
- Baseball cap: six panels of one fabric, a button on top and a curved peak. The whole crown is made from the same material (cotton twill, polyester or a blend). This is the default corporate cap.
- Trucker cap: a solid front (foam or fabric) with mesh rear panels. The mesh lets heat out, which is why it started as workwear. Most trucker caps on the market are based on the Richardson 112 shape, so suppliers will usually know what you mean if you quote it.
- Snapback: strictly speaking this is a closure, not a separate style. In everyday use "snapback" means a structured cap with a flat peak and a plastic snap strap. Many truckers and baseball caps are snapbacks too.
- Dad cap (unstructured): a soft, low crown with no stiffening, usually with a curved peak and a strap-and-buckle back.
- 5-panel: one wide, seamless front panel with no centre seam. Suits long wordmarks.
Baseball vs trucker vs snapback compared
| Baseball | Trucker | Snapback (flat peak) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crown | Same fabric all round | Solid front, mesh back | Usually structured, all fabric |
| Breathability | Moderate; better in performance fabric | Highest | Moderate |
| Look | Classic, corporate | Casual, outdoor | Streetwear, sport |
| Peak | Pre-curved | Slightly curved | Flat, can be curved by the wearer |
| Branding | Front, sides, back | Front panel only; mesh won't hold embroidery cleanly | Front, sides, back |
| Not ideal for | Long hot shifts in cotton | Formal front-of-house | Conservative corporate dress codes |
Step 2: Structured or unstructured, and which profile
Structure depends on whether there is stiffening (buckram) behind the front panels. A structured cap keeps its shape on the shelf and on the head, and gives the embroidery machine a firm surface, so logos come out crisper. An unstructured cap folds and collapses. It looks relaxed and packs easily, but embroidery on a soft panel can pucker, and heat transfers are harder to press evenly.
Profile means crown height:
- Low profile: sits close to the head and is usually unstructured. It is the safest choice when you don't know who will wear the cap, which makes it a good fit for gifts.
- Mid profile: the standard corporate shape. Most front logos fit, and most heads suit it.
- High profile: a tall, upright front with a lot of space for the logo. It looks bold, but some wearers find it too tall.
Structure and profile are separate choices. For a uniform programme, a structured mid-profile cap is the most dependable option: every cap looks the same in a team photo, and the logo stays where you put it.
Step 3: Pick a closure that suits the team
| Closure | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plastic snap strap | Cheap, quick to adjust, durable | Looks casual; snaps can crack after heavy use | Truckers, snapbacks, events |
| Fabric strap with metal buckle or clip | Looks premium, adjusts in small steps | A little more expensive | Gifts, dad caps, front-of-house |
| Hook-and-loop (Velcro) | Fast to adjust, fits a wide range | Catches hair and lint, wears out over time | Budget event caps, children |
| Fitted or stretch-fit | Clean back, no hardware | Must be ordered in sizes; harder for teams | Retail merch, sports brands |
For staff and event orders, use an adjustable closure. One adjustable size fits most adult heads and saves you collecting head measurements. Fitted caps only make sense if you can get sizes from every wearer and are happy to hold spare stock in each size. If your group includes teenagers or people with smaller heads, ask about a youth size.
Step 4: Choose fabric for UAE conditions
In the UAE, caps have to cope with sun, sweat and air-conditioned interiors, not cold.
- Cotton twill (often brushed): soft and matte, and it takes embroidery well. It is the classic corporate fabric, but it holds sweat and dries slowly. Fine for indoor staff and gifts.
- Washed or garment-dyed cotton: a broken-in, faded look for gifts and brand merch. Colour can vary between batches.
- Polyester or performance fabric: light, quick-drying and sweat-wicking. The right choice for outdoor teams, sports events and anyone in the sun for hours. Heat transfers on dyed polyester need a supplier who controls temperature, because dye can migrate into a white print.
- Mesh back (trucker): gives the most airflow for the money. The mesh is purely functional and cannot be branded.
- Wool and acrylic blends: warm, so rarely sensible here.
Practical details matter just as much:
- Sweatband: an absorbent cotton or moisture-wicking band improves comfort on long shifts.
- Colour: light colours such as white, stone and light grey reflect more heat, but show sweat marks and make-up on the band sooner. Navy, black and charcoal hide wear but get hotter in direct sun. Many outdoor teams compromise with a light crown and a darker peak, or a mid-grey.
Step 5: Flat embroidery, 3D puff, patch or print
Most cap branding is stitched rather than printed, because the crown is curved, seamed and stiffened, and thread survives sweat and washing. The main options:
| Method | Looks like | Works well for | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat embroidery | Neat, slightly raised thread | Most logos, small text, corporate caps | Gradients, photos, very fine serifs |
| 3D puff embroidery | Bold, raised letters (roughly 2–3 mm) | Chunky wordmarks and simple icons on the front panel | Needs much larger text; front panel only |
| Woven, embroidered or leather patch | Badge sewn or applied on | Detailed logos, premium or heritage look, artwork that would cross a seam | Higher cost; a visible border |
| Heat transfer / DTF | Flat, full-colour print | Gradients, many colours, tiny text, short runs | Needs a curved cap press; not for mesh or seams; less durable than thread |
When 3D embroidery is the wrong choice
Puff embroidery looks great on a bold logo and poor on a detailed one. The foam underneath can't hold thin strokes or small letters. Decorators quote different minimums for puff lettering, typically somewhere around 8–15 mm tall, compared with roughly 5–6 mm for flat embroidery. Taglines, web addresses and thin script should stay flat. A common and effective approach is to puff the main mark and embroider any small text flat beside or below it. Say clearly in your brief which parts are puff and which are flat.

Step 6: Logo placement and size
The front panel is the main branding area. The sides and back carry smaller secondary marks.
| Position | Typical maximum | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Front, structured cap | About 11.5 cm wide × 6.4 cm tall | Main logo, or logo plus name |
| Front, unstructured dad cap | About 9–10 cm wide × 4.5–5 cm tall | A smaller, simpler logo |
| Side panel | About 5 cm wide × 4 cm tall (up to around 6.5 cm wide) | Icon, location, year, team name |
| Back, above the closure | Up to about 9 cm wide, straight or arched | Web address, slogan, small wordmark |
These are typical guides. The usable area depends on the cap's panel height, seams and the embroidery frame, so ask for the exact figure for your chosen cap. Our guide to logo size for embroidery gives cap sizes alongside chest and sleeve placements.
Six panels or five?
A 6-panel cap has a seam down the centre of the front. Compact or stacked logos sit well across it, but fine detail on a long wordmark can distort on the seam line as the crown flexes. For wide, horizontal logos, a 5-panel cap with a seamless front is usually the better choice.
Placement tips
- Make the logo slightly smaller than the maximum. A logo that fills the whole panel looks crowded and loses its edges in the curve.
- Check how the thread colour contrasts with the cap fabric. Navy on black disappears in photos.
- For gifts, consider a tonal logo (thread the same colour as the cap) for a quieter, premium look.
Quantities, set-up and samples
A custom cap price is made up of three parts: the blank cap, the decoration, and a one-time set-up. For embroidery, that set-up is digitising, which means converting your logo into a stitch file. It is usually paid once per design and size and reused on reorders, so keep the same logo size if you plan to reorder.
Minimum quantities usually apply per style and per colour, not just to the order total, so 25 black and 25 stone caps may count as two runs. MISHAREN supplies custom caps from around 25 pieces, with the exact minimum depending on the cap and branding method. Ask early if you want to split colours.
Always approve a sew-out (a stitched sample on the actual cap, or a photo of one) before bulk production. On-screen mock-ups don't show how thread sits on a curved panel.
How to order company caps: step by step
- Define the use: who wears the caps, indoors or outdoors, and for a single event or daily uniform.
- Pick the style and structure from the tables above.
- Pick the closure: adjustable unless you can collect sizes from everyone.
- Choose fabric and colour for the conditions and your brand colours.
- Send your logo as a vector file (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) with Pantone or thread colour references.
- Agree method, placement and size for the front, side and back.
- Approve the digitised sew-out or sample.
- Confirm quantity per colour, delivery address and date. Leave extra time before events, national holidays and peak gifting seasons.
If the caps are part of a wider uniform, order them alongside the shirts so that colours and logo sizes match. See corporate uniforms for full programmes.
