How to Choose Sportswear for Corporate Teams: Fabric, Fit and Print
Choosing branded sportswear for Dubai Fitness Challenge teams: match the kit to the activity, specify performance fabric and fit, and choose prints that survive sweat and washing.
To choose sportswear for a corporate team, start with the activity and the weather, then pick the fabric, then the fit, and only then the branding method. For most UAE team events that means a lightweight polyester or polyester-elastane performance top, a cut that suits both men and women on the team, and a logo method that stretches and survives repeated hot, sweaty washes. Sublimation suits fully coloured kits, screen printing with polyester-specific inks suits simple logos on stock tees, and embroidery belongs on caps and polos rather than thin running shirts.
This guide is for HR, wellness and events teams buying kit for the Dubai Fitness Challenge or any staff sports day.
Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026: the dates that drive your order
The 10th Dubai Fitness Challenge runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026, asking residents to complete 30 minutes of activity a day for 30 days. The events most companies build team kit around:
- Dubai Ride – 1 November (already held)
- Dubai Stand Up Paddle – 7 and 8 November at Hatta Dam
- Dubai Run – Sunday 22 November, start time 06:30. Both routes start on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Museum of the Future. The 5 km route finishes on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and the 10 km route finishes at the Gate Building in DIFC.
- Dubai Yoga – 29 November, closing the challenge
- Fitness Villages – three free villages running through the month, with classes and courts for basketball, football, padel and volleyball
As of 5 November, Dubai Run is a little over two weeks away. That rules some options out (more on timing below). If you are ordering for a single run, our Dubai Run team T-shirts guide covers that one event in detail. This article covers the wider choice: which garments, fabrics and branding methods suit which activity.
Step 1: Match the garment to the activity
A 10 km run, a yoga session and a padel tournament put very different demands on clothing. Buying one T-shirt for everything is fine for a fun run. If staff will train in the kit all month, buy for the hardest use.
| Activity | Best garment | Fabric to ask for | Branding that works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Run (5 km or 10 km) | Short-sleeve performance tee or singlet | 100% polyester or poly-elastane, light weight, mesh panels if available | Screen print with polyester inks, DTF on small logos, or sublimation |
| Cycling (Dubai Ride, team rides) | Fitted jersey with a full or half zip | Polyester-elastane with stretch; a longer back hem | Sublimation (it stretches with the fabric) |
| Yoga and studio classes | Relaxed tee or long-sleeve top; leggings or joggers | Soft poly-elastane or a cotton-rich blend; opacity matters more than wicking | Small chest print or a tone-on-tone logo |
| Padel, football, volleyball | Polo or crew-neck tee with shorts | Moisture-wicking polyester; a dri-fit polo for padel clubs | Sublimation for full kits; screen print or DTF for numbers and names |
| All-month office wellness challenge | Performance tee plus a cap | Mid-weight polyester that still looks smart in the office | Clean chest logo; embroidery on the cap |
Don't forget headwear. For outdoor events, a lightweight branded cap is often more useful than a second shirt, and it takes embroidery well. See our caps range.
Step 2: Choose the fabric for UAE conditions
November is one of the more comfortable months for outdoor sport in Dubai, but it is still warm. Climate averages put November highs around 30°C and lows around 23°C, and early-month days can still reach the low-to-mid 30s. A 06:30 start is cooler, but runners will still finish wet through.
Polyester and polyester-elastane: the default for performance
Synthetic performance fabrics are made to pull sweat off the skin and dry quickly. Cotton does the opposite: it absorbs sweat, holds it, and gets heavy and clingy during hard sessions. For anything involving running, cycling or court sports, ask for 100% polyester, or polyester with 5–10% elastane (spandex) if the garment needs to stretch.
What to check on a performance fabric:
- Weight. Running tees are usually light, roughly in the 120–160 GSM range. Heavier polyester holds its shape and looks better in the office, but feels warmer outdoors. If you want one shirt for both, a mid-weight polyester near the top of that range is a sensible compromise.
- Knit. Bird's-eye mesh and micro-mesh breathe better than flat interlock. Interlock gives a smoother surface for printing.
- Opacity. Very light white or pastel polyester can be see-through when wet. Ask for a sample, wet it and look at it in daylight.
- Finishes. Anti-odour and UV-protection claims vary a lot. If they matter to you, ask the supplier for the mill's test report rather than relying on a swing tag.
When cotton or blends still make sense
Cotton is fine for yoga, walking groups and souvenir shirts that will mostly be worn casually. Poly-cotton blends sit in between: softer than pure polyester and better with sweat than pure cotton. A heavyweight cotton tee looks great in photos but is the wrong choice for a 10 km run.
Colour choice
Light colours reflect heat. Mid-grey polyester shows sweat patches most in event photos. Navy and black hide sweat but absorb sun. White, light blue and bright brand colours usually photograph best at a dawn run.
Step 3: Get the fit right for a mixed team
Fit is where most corporate sportswear orders go wrong. A boxy unisex cut that suits one person looks tent-like on another.
- Offer at least two cuts. A regular or athletic men's cut and a women's cut with a shaped side seam and a shorter sleeve. If you can only offer one style, choose a relaxed unisex cut over a slim one.
- Give modest options. Some staff will want long sleeves, a longer hem or a looser fit. A long-sleeve performance top in the same fabric and colour keeps the team looking uniform while respecting personal choice.
- Collect sizes from a chart, not guesses. Send a chart in centimetres with chest and length measurements, and ask staff to measure a shirt they already like.
- Allow for shrinkage and stretch. Polyester barely shrinks. Cotton can shrink a little after the first hot wash. Poly-elastane fits closer, so people between sizes should usually size up.
- Order a size buffer. Adding around 5–10% extra across the middle sizes is cheaper than reordering a handful of shirts in a rush.
Step 4: Pick branding that survives sweat and washing
Sweat, sunscreen, friction from backpacks and race bibs, and frequent washing will show up a weak print within weeks. Match the method to the fabric and the design.
| Method | How it bonds | Strengths | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sublimation | Dye goes into the polyester fibres | No feel, does not crack or peel, all-over colour, stays breathable | Needs light-coloured, high-polyester fabric; usually made to order, so longer lead time |
| Screen printing | Ink sits on the surface | Durable and cost-effective for one- to three-colour logos at volume | Use polyester or low-bleed inks to stop dye migration (red or dark garments staining white ink); thick ink layers block breathability |
| DTF transfer | A printed film is heat-pressed on | Full colour, short runs, names and numbers | Choose a stretch-friendly film; big solid areas feel plasticky and trap heat; cure temperature must suit thin polyester |
| Heat-transfer vinyl | A cut vinyl is pressed on | Good for individual names and numbers | Edges can lift after many hot washes; keep to small areas |
| Embroidery | Thread is stitched in | Premium, very durable | Too heavy and stiff for light running tees; best on caps, polos and jackets |
Practical rules:
- Keep logos small and light on performance tees. A chest logo of roughly 8–10 cm wide plus a back print is plenty. Large solid prints act like a patch of plastic over the spine.
- Ask about dye migration on coloured polyester. If you want a white logo on a red or dark polyester shirt, ask the printer which inks or blockers they use. A white print turning pink after a week is a common failure.
- Leave space for the race bib. Race bibs are usually pinned on the front. Put sponsor logos on the back and sleeves so the bib does not cover them.
- Ask for a wash test. Before full production, ask for one decorated sample. Wash it five times at 40°C, then check for cracking, lifting edges and colour bleed.

Step 5: Be realistic about the timeline
Lead times depend on stock, quantity, branding method and approval speed, so treat these as general guidance:
- Stock garments printed locally are the fastest route. Plain performance tees held in UAE stock can be screen printed or DTF-printed once artwork and sizes are approved. This is the realistic option for Dubai Run on 22 November if you order now.
- Custom sublimated kits (your own colours, all-over designs, made-to-order cuts) are usually produced by manufacturing partners and need sampling and shipping time. For this year's challenge they suit the later November events only if you start straight away. Otherwise they are a better fit for planning next year's kit, or a year-round staff sports range.
- Approve fast. Most delays come from artwork changes and late size lists, not production. Have a vector logo (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG), a final size breakdown and one person who can sign off.
- Build in a handover buffer. Plan to distribute shirts at least a few days before the event, so people can exchange sizes and try the kit on a short training run.
MISHAREN sources through partners in the UAE, India and China, so a supplier like us can usually offer both routes. Local stock and printing cover a near deadline. Partner manufacturing covers custom-made kit when there is time to sample. The right choice depends on your date, not on preference.
Care instructions to send with the kit
Most prints fail because of how they are washed. Include a short care note:
- Turn inside out and wash at 30–40°C.
- Skip fabric softener. It coats performance fibres and reduces wicking.
- Air-dry in the shade or tumble on low. High heat damages prints and elastane.
- Never iron directly on a print or transfer.
- Wash sweaty kit soon after the event rather than leaving it in a gym bag.
Buyer's checklist
