Hoodies Wholesale UAE: A Buyer's Guide to Custom Bulk Hoodies
How to buy custom hoodies in bulk in the UAE: fleece vs French terry, which GSM suits our climate, embroidery vs printing, MOQs and lead-time planning.
To buy hoodies wholesale in the UAE, first decide what the hoodie is for, then choose the fabric (French terry or brushed fleece), the weight (roughly 260–350 GSM covers most UAE needs), the branding method and the quantity. Most B2B suppliers start custom hoodie orders at about 25 pieces using stock blanks. Fully custom-made hoodies, in your own colour or fabric, need bigger runs and more lead time. For a winter event, a desert camp or year-end merchandise, start planning at least a month before the date you need them.
This guide covers each of those decisions in the order a buyer has to make them, and explains the trade-offs.
Where hoodies are actually worn in the UAE
Most hoodie guides are written for cold climates, which is why they push very heavy fabrics. UAE use is different. According to WeatherSpark's climate averages for Dubai, winter daytime highs are about 26°C and night-time lows about 16°C. Even on the coldest days of mid-January, the typical range is only about 14–24°C. Bayut's monthly figures say the same: December to February are the cool months, with January highs around 24°C.
So in the UAE, a hoodie is usually worn:
- In the evening and outdoors, at desert camps, beach and rooftop events, outdoor concerts and sports nights.
- Indoors under strong air-conditioning, in offices, call centres, studios and data rooms, all year.
- On early or night shifts, by logistics, security, construction and hospitality teams.
- In inland and mountain areas, which are noticeably colder after dark than the coast.
- As merchandise or a gift, where the hoodie needs to feel substantial when someone picks it up.
Each of these points to a different fabric and weight. Office wear under air-conditioning needs a breathable mid-weight. A Hatta or Ras Al Khaimah mountain camp in January justifies a heavier fleece. A hoodie for a 300-person outdoor event in November should not cost what a premium retail hoodie costs.
French terry vs brushed fleece
Both fabrics are knitted with a smooth face on the outside. The difference is the inside. French terry keeps small, uncut loops on the inside. Fleece has those loops brushed into a soft, raised nap.
| French terry | Brushed fleece | |
|---|---|---|
| Inside surface | Flat loops | Soft, fluffy nap |
| Warmth | Moderate | Higher at the same weight |
| Breathability | Better; suits active wear and AC offices | Lower; holds heat |
| Feel when picked up | Lighter, drapes more | Thicker, more "premium" |
| Pilling over time | Low, because nothing is raised | Depends on brushing quality; cheap fleece can pill inside |
| Best UAE uses | Office and staff wear, active teams, layering, spring events | Night events, desert camps, mountain trips, gifting, merch |
Two points from manufacturers are useful when you compare samples. Brushing adds loft, so fleece feels thicker than its GSM suggests. One hoodie manufacturer says a 400 GSM French terry feels about as thick as a 300–320 GSM fleece. Brushing is also a mechanical finish that wears. Cheap fleece can pill and thin out on the inside after repeated hot washes, while French terry has nothing raised that could pill. If staff will wash the hoodie weekly, ask the supplier about the brushing quality, not just the weight.
What GSM to order
GSM means grams per square metre of fabric. It is a starting point, not a full measure of quality: the fibre blend, yarn and finishing all change how a fabric feels. For more on the term, see our GSM explainer. These are the common bands for hoodies and sweatshirts:
| Weight | Feel | Good UAE fit |
|---|---|---|
| 240–260 GSM | Light, flexible | Indoor AC wear, layering, budget promotional runs, spring events |
| 280–300 GSM | Mid-weight everyday | Staff hoodies, teamwear, most corporate merchandise |
| 320–350 GSM | Heavyweight, structured | Winter night events, desert camps, premium gifts, retail merchandise |
| 380–400+ GSM | Very heavy, boxy | Streetwear brands and oversized retail pieces; rarely needed for staff |
Practical guidance: for most UAE corporate orders, 280–320 GSM gives the best balance of warmth, cost and comfort. Order heavier only when the hoodie will be sold or given as a gift, or worn outdoors on cold nights. Heavier fabric costs more, takes up more space in a suitcase or gift box, and is too warm for most of the year.
Fibre blend
- 100% cotton feels soft and premium and works well with embroidery. It can shrink more and tends to cost more.
- Cotton-polyester blends, often called CVC or 80/20 or 60/40, are the usual choice for wholesale. They keep their shape, shrink less and hold their colour through frequent washing.
- 100% polyester or performance fleece is lighter, dries quickly and suits sports teams. It is also the only base that works with sublimation printing.
Shrinkage and pilling depend on the specific blend, yarn and finishing, so neither fabric is automatically better. For any order of real size, ask for a sample that has been washed, then check how it looks and measures before you approve bulk production.
Pullover, zip or crewneck
- Pullover hoodie: the classic option. It has the largest clear print area on the chest, but the kangaroo pocket sits low on the front, so keep artwork above the pocket seam.
- Zip hoodie: easier to take on and off in a building that alternates between AC and outdoor heat, and it looks smarter for staff. The zip splits the chest, so branding normally goes on the left chest, the back or a sleeve. A design cannot run across the middle.
- Crewneck sweatshirt: has no hood or drawcords and looks neater under a uniform jacket. It works well for front-of-house teams who need warmth but not a casual look.
Also decide on the fit early. A regular fit suits staff wear. Oversized and drop-shoulder cuts suit merchandise and fashion, but they use more fabric and cost more.
Embroidery vs printing on hoodies
Hoodies take most branding methods well. The right choice depends on the artwork, the quantity and how long the garment needs to last.
| Method | Best for | Strengths | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embroidery | Left-chest logos, staff wear, gifts | Durable, premium look, unaffected by washing | Not suitable for very fine detail or large designs; heavy stitching can pucker light fabric |
| 3D/puff embroidery | Caps-style logos and merchandise | Strong raised effect | Needs bold, simple shapes |
| Screen printing | Larger runs with 1–4 colour designs | Lowest cost per piece at volume; durable | A separate screen and setup for each colour, so it suits bigger quantities |
| DTF transfer | Full-colour logos, small runs, names | No colour limit, works for low quantities | Sits on the surface; quality depends on the film and how it is pressed |
| Sublimation | All-over designs on polyester | Vivid, permanent colour | Only works on light-coloured polyester |
Two hoodie-specific points:
- Double-sided fleece, which is brushed on the outside as well, gives an uneven surface. Basic heat transfers can fail to bond to it properly. Embroidery, or a print process that flattens the fibres first, is safer.
- Large back prints on heavy fleece feel stiff if the ink is laid down thickly. For big designs, ask about softer inks or water-based options, or split the design into a smaller front and a larger back print.
A common corporate combination is an embroidered left-chest logo with a printed back design. You get the premium look at the front and an event or team message on the back. For a deeper comparison, read embroidery vs printing for your logo. For stitch options, including patches and names, see logo embroidery.
MOQs: what quantity unlocks what
"Wholesale" covers very different orders:
- Stock blanks plus your branding (from about 25 pieces): you choose from colours and sizes already made, and the logo is added locally. This is the quickest and most flexible route, and it suits most corporate and event orders.
- Larger branded runs (around 100 pieces or more): screen printing becomes cost-effective, and pricing per piece usually improves as setup costs are spread out.
- Custom-made hoodies (larger minimums, often per colour): you choose the fabric, GSM, Pantone colour, fit, rib, woven labels and packaging. This is the right route for clothing brands and large uniform programmes. Minimums are set by the factory and the fabric mill, not the decorator.
Mixed sizes are normally fine within one colour. Splitting a small order across several colours can push you over a minimum on each colour, so check this before promising staff a choice of colours. If you buy blank hoodies to resell or decorate yourself, our reseller programme is set up for that.
Timelines: plan backwards from your date
Lead times depend on stock, quantity, the branding method and where the hoodie is made. MISHAREN sources through partners in the UAE, India and China, and each route has a different lead time. Use this sequence as a rough guide:
- Brief and quotation (a few days): quantity, style, colour, GSM, branding, delivery emirate and deadline.
- Artwork and digital mock-up: send vector files (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) to avoid redrawing delays.
- Physical sample (optional but recommended for 100+ pieces): add about a week for stock garments, and longer for custom-made samples.
- Production: branding stock blanks locally is the fastest option. Custom-made hoodies from overseas factories also need time for fabric, cutting, sewing and shipping, so plan in weeks, not days.
- Delivery and distribution: allow time for size-sorting, individual bagging or gift packing if you need it.
The cooler months, roughly November to March, are also the busiest time for events and corporate gifting, so factories and embroiderers fill up. For National Day or year-end orders, confirm by October or early November. See our National Day apparel guide for gifting ideas.
Sizing a mixed team
- Ask for a size chart in centimetres (chest width and body length) rather than relying on S–XXL labels. Sizing from Asian, European and local sources can vary by a full size.
- Ask for a size set or measure an existing hoodie before you collect sizes from staff.
- A typical run for mixed adult teams is weighted towards M, L and XL, but use real staff data where you have it. For event giveaways where sizes are unknown, keep a small buffer of L and XL.
- Offer a women's or unisex fit if your team is mixed. A unisex regular fit is usually the simplest choice for wholesale.
What drives the price
The price per hoodie mainly depends on:
- Fabric type, GSM and blend
- Stock blank or custom-made
- Number of branding positions and the stitch count or colour count
- Quantity, because setup costs are spread over more pieces
- Extras such as woven neck labels, custom drawcords, zip quality and individual packing
- Urgency
To compare quotations fairly, make sure each supplier is quoting the same GSM, blend, branding size and branding positions. A cheap quote is often for a lighter fabric or a smaller logo.
Quotation checklist
- Purpose and where it will be worn (office AC, outdoor night, gift, resale)
- Style: pullover, zip or crewneck; regular or oversized fit
- Fabric: French terry or fleece; target GSM; blend
- Colour(s) and quantity per colour
- Size breakdown or a size range
- Logo files (vector) and branding positions with approximate sizes
- Branding method preference, or ask for a recommendation
- Packing needs (bulk, individual bags, gift boxes)
- Delivery emirate(s) and the date you need them in hand
